The Department of Health on Wednesday reported 339 new recoveries which pushed the overall tally of recovered cases from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to 448,700.

In its 4 p.m. case bulletin, the DOH said the figures represent 93.3 percent of those who tested positive for the virus that have so far overcome the illness.

The agency also reported 1,047 new confirmed cases and 26 new deaths.

These figures bring the overall tally of active cases to 22,690 and the death toll to 9,347.

The DOH said about 81.8 percent of the active cases are mild, 8.5 percent are asymptomatic, 3.2 percent are severe, 0.52 percent are moderate, and 6 percent are in critical condition.

“Three duplicates that were removed from the total case count, and of these, one recovered case has been removed. Moreover, 13 cases previously tagged as recovered was reclassified as deaths,” it added.

Davao City topped the list of places that logged the highest number of new cases with 79 infections.

It was followed by Quezon City with 58; Laguna with 55; Bulacan with 40; and Cagayan de Oro with 40.

DOH data on Jan. 5 showed that 1,465 or 6.2 percent of 23,606 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

“Three labs were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Data Repository System on January 5, 2021,” the DOH said.

Currently, there is a 25,700-bed capacity dedicated to patients with Covid-19.

Available are 60 percent of 2,100 intensive care unit beds, 64 percent of 16,000 isolation beds, and 77 percent of 7,600 ward beds.

About 77 percent of 2,000 ventilators are available for Covid-19 patients’ use.

The DOH reminded the public to be cautious in interpreting these numbers as an increase in cases in the coming weeks is still possible.

The DOH continues to assess the extent of the effects of the holiday season on Covid-19 transmission.

It also asked all stakeholders to be vigilant and should not be complacent in the fight against Covid-19. (PNA)
