The Pasig city government has temporarily closed its community kitchen after one of its workers tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Mayor Vico Sotto on Monday said the community kitchen, which is in-charge in preparing meals for the city’s healthcare workers and other front-liners, will be closed for two weeks.

He added that close contacts of the positive patient will undergo a 14-day quarantine and will be tested for Covid-19.

“We are now setting up a temporary kitchen at the Livelihood Center,” he said.

“Quarantine/isolation facility na lang muna ang mabibigyan natin ng pagkain, higit sa 300 pax ito sa ngayon (We can only provide meals for the quarantine or isolation facility, so far, it’s more than 300 pax),” he added.

The city government has initially set up the community kitchen to supply meals for the city’s front-liners working in various health centers, hospitals, and even in checkpoints.

Since the onset of the pandemic, the community kitchen has been providing thousands of food packs per meal, lunch, and dinner, that is being delivered to more than 50 different locations within the city, where the front-liners perform their duties.

“Let’s pray for health and quick recovery. Salute to our community kitchen’s front-liners who have been tirelessly preparing over 5,000 meals a day this GCQ [general community quarantine],” Sotto urged the public.

Meanwhile, Sotto said “there is no evidence of transmission” within the community kitchen’s workplace as shown in the result of the city’s contact tracing efforts.

“Ibig sabihin, maayos ang health safety protocols nila (That means they have an organized health safety protocols). I’m very proud of them! Hanggang kahapon nasa 5,000 meals kada araw ang niluluto nila (Since yesterday they cooked up to 5,000 meals per day),” Sotto said. (PNA)
