The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) on Tuesday reminded overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to strictly follow health protocols in host countries where they are employed amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

In Advisory No. 121, Series of 2020, the agency urged Filipinos abroad to abide by the health measures by the country to help stop the spread of the virus.

“In view of the continuing spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and its effects on people’s health worldwide, and in respect to the measures being undertaken by host governments in preventing its spread, all overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are strongly advised to observe and comply with the health protocols being implemented at their respective job sites,” said the advisory signed by POEA chief Bernard Olalia.

He also reminded the OFWs to follow such protocols while they are on their way to the countries where they have been hired.

“These health protocols may include social and physical distancing, wearing of face masks, refraining from unnecessary travel and avoiding large gatherings of people, among others,” he added.

Olalia said OFWs must comply with safety measures for their benefit and to avoid fines and penalties.

“Adherence thereto can also be seen as an act of caring for our fellowmen and a show of unity to the countries hosting our OFWs,” he said.

Last week, South Korea banned all large gatherings and closed beaches, nightclubs, and churches as Covid-19 cases in the country continue to spike, which has already reached almost 18,000.

Most of the new infections in the country were linked to churches in its capital Seoul.

In July, Hong Kong allowed dine-in services only until 6 p.m. at 50-percent capacity and with the observance of physical distancing between diners.

A gathering of more than two people is also prohibited and wearing of face masks is mandatory in public places on the island. (PNA)
