About 300 Philippine Navy (PN) troops have been redeployed to man checkpoints in areas placed anew under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

“Upon the enactment of MECQ, the PN set out teams to aid other law enforcement agencies in ensuring an orderly and strict reimplementation of quarantine guidelines to stem the transmission of (the coronavirus disease 2019) Covid-19,” Navy public affairs office chief, Lt. Commander Maria Christina Roxas, said in a statement Tuesday.

The Navy personnel are under the Joint Task Force – National Capital Region of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

“This is over and above the stand-by PN contingent,” Roxas added.

Even with the implementation of the general community quarantine last June, the Navy continued its regular patrol of all sea entry points and deployment of troops to man airports, swabbing facilities, and other quarantine controlled-areas.

“With the reimplementation of a stricter community quarantine, the Philippine Navy, with the help of its stakeholders, will also double its efforts to help the national government combat this unprecedented global pandemic,” she said. (PNA)
