Liquor ban in Pasig City has been lifted Tuesday, however, Mayor Vico Sotto reminded residents that drinking alcoholic beverages in public places and social gatherings are still prohibited amid the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

“We are lifting because businesses and workers are also affected by the ban,” Sotto said on his Twitter post.

Sotto said residents are allowed to drink liquor but limited only inside their homes.

“Ngunit paalala na bawal pa rin po ang social gatherings. Kung inom na inom na po kayo, sa loob na lang muna ng bahay at wag imbitahin ang buong barangay (I’m reminding everyone that social gatherings are still prohibited. If you are really craving to drink liquor, just drink inside your home and don’t invite the entire village),” he added.

In a separate post, the Pasig City’s Public Information Office said the city council has passed an ordinance lifting of liquor ban on alcoholic beverages, however, limitations are strictly observed.

“Paalala sa lahat na bawal pa din ang pag inom sa pampublikong lugar, mga social gatherings tulad ng pag imbita ng bisita sa bahay at mag dine-in sa mga restaurants, bars at iba pang tindahan sa ating lungsod (reminding everyone that drinking in public places, social gatherings such as inviting guests in your homes and dining-in to restaurants, bars and other similar establishments in our city are still restricted,” the post read.

Any social gatherings and dine-in services in the city remain prohibited.

The city government said violators of the ordinance will face corresponding sanctions.

The Pasig has previously signed Ordinance No. 8 Series of 2020, to prohibit selling liquor in establishments and drinking of alcoholic drinks in public places.

Several local government units in Metro Manila have also lifted liquor ban in their areas including Quezon City, Marikina City, San Juan City, Mandaluyong City, and Pasay City. (PNA)
