Operating hours of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) will be reduced on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve to allow the train service’s workers to celebrate the holidays.

In a Twitter post, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), operator of the LRT-2, said aside from giving their workers more time for the holidays, another consideration for the cut was the expected decline in ridership on both days.

“The LRT-2 System will reduce its operating hours on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31, 2019 in anticipation of a significant decline in ridership and to allow our station/security personnel to celebrate Christmas & New Year’s Eve with their families,” the Twitter post read.

On December 24, Tuesday, the last train from Cubao Station (Westbound) will arrive at 8 p.m., while the last train from Recto Station (Eastbound) will also arrive at 8 p.m.

On December 31, Tuesday, both the last trains from Cubao Station and Recto Station will arrive at 7:30 p.m.

There will be no changes to the LRT-2’s first commercial train trips in both directions, at 5 a.m.

In November, the LRTA said restoration of service of the Santolan, Katipunan, and Anonas stations may take another four months, or by March or April 2020.

With a total approved budget of PHP562.9 million divided into six contracts, a six-month deadline was set by the Congress for the repair of the LRT-2 after two power rectifiers (transformers) exploded and caught fire in the rail line early October. (PNA)
