The Philippine Sports Commission lauded the efforts and help of Senator Christopher Lawrence Go in pushing for the approval of the budget for all the programs proposed by PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez for next year.

Go, committee chair of health and sports, divulged that they have passed the budget needed by PSC last Monday.

“My support for sports is tight because my heart is into it,” Go said.

Go added that the PSC needs to strengthen its programs since more and more Filipino athletes are gaining ground around the world for their skills.

He stressed that sports activities for the youth would keep them away from drugs.

“In sports activities, we also instill in the youth the discipline, responsibility and most of all the love for our homeland. If a young person is healthy and enjoys the sport, they will become active citizens and they are free from vices like alcohol and drugs,” Go said.

He also added that the funding allotted to PSC would encourage athletes in the country to participate in international competitions.

“We need to raise the capacity of our youth by promoting and supporting the country’s sports program,” Go added.

Ramirez said he was very pleased with the support provided by the senator.

“This is the first time that we really got full support and we thank the good senator for his efforts. We will not waste the help he extended to us and his dream to help the Filipino youth athletes,” he said.

Meanwhile, PSC commissioner Charles Raymond Maxey told the Philippine News Agency on Saturday that the support extended by Go to PSC and its programs will boost the confidence of their athletes in bringing pride to the country.

“We hope to reciprocate his generosity and trust by implementing sports programs that will benefit our athletes, and for our people to enjoy the kind of service they truly deserve from government,” Maxey said. (PNA)
