The world’s first 360-degree infinity pool, a new attraction in London is expected to start construction in 2020 and it will be sustainable.

Compass Pools, designer of the four-sided infinity pool announced details of the pool’s technical features. The heating system of the most awaited pool will make use of renewable energy making it sustainable. Waste energy in the form of hot gas from the building’s air conditioning system will pass through a transformer to heat the pool. A computer-controlled system will monitor and ensure the right water temperature, while an anemometer will check wind speed to ensure water does not blow over.

The 360-degree infinity pool will atop a 55-story five-star hotel called Infinity London. The revolutionary pool was first conceptualized even before the hotel according to Compass Pool. Hence, the building was designed to suit the needs of the infinity pool.

The pool’s material will be made of acrylic to make it perfectly clear. The pool will also feature a transparent floor so swimmers can observe what’s happening on the floor below. The initial problem was the entrance and exit to the pool. Alex Kemsley, Compass Pool’s technical director said that they didn’t want any ladder because it will spoil the view.

“The solution is based on the door of a submarine, coupled with a rotating spiral staircase which rises from the pool floor when someone wants to get in or out – the absolute cutting edge of swimming pool and building design and a little bit James Bond to boot!” he said.

The exact location of Infinity London is yet to be announced.
