Sixty overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) here affected by global tensions each received PHP10,000 financial assistance from the provincial government on Monday.

Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, who represented Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., said the Ilonggo OFWs were affected by the conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States; and the Russia-Ukraine war.

“The governor has directed the PSWDO (Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office) and our PESO (Public Employment Service Office) to facilitate the PHP10,000, and we did it this morning,” he said in an interview.

The cash aid came from the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation, which was earmarked by the Department of Social Welfare and Development for Iloilo province.

The aid provides immediate relief to workers whose livelihoods and sources of income have been affected by crises abroad.

Banias said funds are available as long as they are validated to be OFWs affected by global tensions. (PNA)
