A total of 5,000 barangay tanods (village watchers) from the fifth district of Manila received financial assistance from the national government in coordination with local officials.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna led the distribution of the cash aid from the “Kadiwa ng Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.” program at the San Andres Sports Complex on Monday.

Each barangay tanod received PHP2,000 during the event.

Lacuna said the aid distribution came after the city’s Department of Social Welfare chief Re Fugoso informed her that the Office of the President would transmit funds for the city’s aid programs.

“Bigyan naman natin ang mga tanod. Kasi parang kayo ‘yung hindi napapansin. Kayo ‘yung nakakalimutan, lahat pinapatawag na, bakit naman hindi natin pasayahin ang mga tanod. Maraming maraming salamat (Let’s give some to the tanod. It’s because they are the ones who are often unnoticed. They are the ones who are forgotten. All sectors have already been called. Why not make our tanods happy? Thank you very much) President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,” the mayor said in a short speech.

Lacuna said this will not be the last aid grant from the President.

Vice Mayor John Marvin Nieto and Manila 5th District Rep. Irwin Tieng, who also graced the event, echoed Lacuna’s pronouncements and thanked the President for the assistance.

They also hailed the barangay tanods’ service to help ensure peace and order in the city. (PNA)
