Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso on Wednesday give four more medical schools a go signal to conduct limited face-to-face classes as well as the gradual reopening of the clinical clerkship program.

After meeting with the school officials, Domagoso approved the requests of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM)-College of Medicine, Metropolitan Medical Center College of Arts and Sciences, Chinese General Hospital (CGH) Colleges, and Manila Theological College-College of Medicine to resume in-person classes.

Domagoso agreed with the school officials that in-person classes would benefit medical students and those enrolled in allied health courses.

He said the goal is to produce doctors, nurses, midwives, and other professionals.

“If we can produce that next year, then at least we can continue to strengthen our medical professionals handling the situation,” he said.

PLM president Emmanuel Leyco said they asked for the gradual reopening of the clinical clerkship program of their medical students at the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center.

Metropolitan Medical Center College of Arts and Sciences also requested for clinical clerkship under the doctor of medicine program and gradual reopening of face-to-face classes.

On the other hand, Chinese General Hospital Colleges requested to continue the hands-on pre-clinical training and clinical rotation inside their campus laboratory and hospital.

The Manila Theological College – College of Medicine likewise asked that its fourth-year medical students be allowed to conduct a limited in-hospital duty at Tondo Medical Center to be supervised by “highly qualified medical professionals” of the hospital.

The school officials submitted their respective health and protocols in accordance with the recommended guidelines provided under the joint memorandum issued by the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Health.

In February, Domagoso also approved the conduct of limited face-to-face classes for the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) and the Centro Escolar University (CEU). (PNA)
