The National Housing Authority (NHA) has awarded 392 housing units to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Marawi City, marking a critical milestone in the government’s ongoing rehabilitation and peace-building efforts for the conflict-stricken city.

In a news release on Thursday, the NHA noted that the turnover of the Pamayandeg Ranaw Residences in Dansalan, located across Barangays Kilala and Mipantao-Gadongan, was part of this year’s commemoration of the Marawi Week of Peace.

NHA Region IX Manager Al-Khwarizmi Indanan and NHA-MSO Deputy Manager Engr. Ali Acbar Lomigis led the granting of the permanent housing units to bona fide constituents from four barangays within the reclamation site area of Marawi City.

The shelter project was completed under the NHA’s Housing Assistance Program for Calamity Victims-Marawi Conflict Transitory Shelter Program.

As a member of the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) Subcommittee on Housing, the NHA has been heavily tasked with executing the city’s recovery roadmap, which includes debris management, road infrastructure development, and the construction of both transitory and permanent shelters within the most affected area (MAA).

The NHA said that the initiative underscores the national government’s commitment to “peace-building and recovery efforts sa pamamagitan ng pagkakaloob ng mas ligtas, mas matatag, at mas sustenableng komunidad para sa mga internally displaced na pamilya sa Marawi City (through the provision of safer, more resilient, and more sustainable communities for internally displaced families in Marawi City).”

Local officials praised the collaborative efforts of the TFBM subcommittees, noting that the physical completion of the public infrastructure and permanent housing units brings the city closer to full restoration nearly a decade after the 2017 siege. (PNA)
