The Department of Agriculture in Bicol (DA-5) has distributed more than PHP46 million worth of livestock chicken layer modular packages to 20 groups across the region under the Livestock Economic Enterprise Development (LEED) program.

The initiative aims to strengthen the role of livestock farming in the region by providing comprehensive production support, helping increase farmers’ income and enhance food security.

Each package, valued at around PHP2.3 million, includes vital support equipment such as egg-hauling vehicles to ensure smooth transport from farms to markets.

Other interventions under the package include 1,000 ready-to-lay White Leghorn chickens; a battery cage system with a 1,000-head capacity; one set of solar power equipment; one high-pressure washer; 300 paper egg trays; drugs and biologics; and poultry feeds.

In Albay, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, Masbate and Sorsogon, three groups each — composed of farmers’ cooperatives, state universities and colleges (SUCs), and local government units (LGUs) — received the modular packages, while five groups in Camarines Sur benefited from the program. (PNA)
