Two major Catholic churches in Butuan City will be opening their doors for the continuing vaccination program by the government.

In a statement Monday, the City Information Office of Butuan said St. Joseph Cathedral and the Sto. Niño Diocesan Shrine will be open for first, second, and booster shots of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines from Aug. 28 to Sept. 25.

“The opening of the churches for the vaccination drive was made possible through the coordination made by the city government, the Department of Health in the Caraga Region, and the local church leaders,” the statement said.

Data provided by the city government noted an increase in Covid-19 infections is also recorded in the city starting last month.

As of Aug. 13, data showed Butuan has 67 active Covid-19 infections.

Since the pandemic hit the country over two years ago, Butuan has already logged 14,901 cumulative cases, 14,299 recoveries, and 541 deaths. (PNA)
