About 167 members of the House of Representatives (HoR) joined the opening of the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair (BPSF) here Friday.

In his speech, House Speaker Martin Ferdinand Romualdez thanked his fellow lawmakers who supported the BPSF, noting that it was the largest BPSF so far of the Marcos administration.

“I really don’t know that we will have a quorum here in Tagum City. This is the first time that around 167 members of HoR attended the BPSF,” Romualdez said of what he called a historic turnout.

“Thank you very much. You are supposed to be in your respective districts but you chose to support the event here.”

In an interview, Cavite 2nd District Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla lauded the event for being well-organized, adding that the BPSF here saw the biggest attendance among her colleagues at the House.

“It is part of our oversight functions, as well, to see and check if the programs that we have funded are being implemented well by the agencies,” she said.

“It has a well-organized set-up… As you can see the Congress representatives are working hand in hand in this event. Hope to see more of this collaboration among our friends in Congress because it will help the Filipino people.”

The event, which ends Saturday, is set to provide aid to about 250,000 Davao del Norte beneficiaries with more than PHP913 million worth of government services, as well as cash, education, and livelihood assistance. (PNA)
