Fifteen student leaders began a three-day immersion in local governance Monday after being sworn in as 2026 Boy and Girl Officials of Iloilo province as part of the Linggo ng Kabataan (youth week) celebration.

The participants will work observe local government operations, attend official activities and gain firsthand experience in public service.

Roniel John Figueroa of Alimodian National Comprehensive High School was named Boy Governor, while Pia Ladrillo of Barotac Viejo National High School was selected Girl Vice Governor.

“This is not just a title. It is influence,” Figueroa said in his inaugural address. “With this influence, I plan to promote my advocacy, especially on critical thinking among children.”

Figueroa said the Alimodian Debate Society, where he is active, conducts debates to help students develop critical thinking skills.

The 2026 Boy and Girl Officials program is spearheaded by the Panlalawigang Pederasyon ng mga Sangguniang Kabataan-Iloilo. The 15 youth leaders were selected through a screening process.

The remaining participants will serve as provincial board members representing Iloilo’s five districts and as youth counterparts of the presidents of the Philippine Councilors League, Liga ng mga Barangay and the Panlalawigang Pederasyon ng mga Sangguniang Kabataan. (PNA)
