At least 12 modernized jeepneys will soon ply the major routes in this province.

This, as four transport service cooperatives here launched on Wednesday 12 air-conditioned public utility jeepneys (PUJs) under the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

The Kapampangan Transport Service Cooperative, Lubao Transport Service Cooperative, Guagua/Betis/Bacolor Transport Service Cooperative, and One Mexico Prime Transport Service Cooperative manifested their intention to deploy the modern jeepneys in the province.

Ahmed G. Cuizon, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) regional head, congratulated the four transport service cooperatives for embracing the PUV modernization program.

Cuizon said the modern PUJs are environment-friendly, safe, secure, and comfortable with due consideration to persons with disabilities (PWDs).

“Through this development, commuters from various areas in the province will now be able to enjoy riding air-conditioned, spacious, safe and convenient modernized PUJs,” he said during the launch at the Capitol grounds here.

He also assured that the LTFRB will continue to provide technical assistance to the transport service cooperatives in the province.

The PUVMP is the flagship, non-infrastructure project of the Duterte administration with the goal of providing a comfortable life for all Filipinos through a safe, reliable, convenient, affordable, and environmentally sustainable public transportation system. (PNA)
