When Fiction Becomes A Reality – Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark Trailer

“Some people believe that if we repeat stories often enough… they become real.”

With the trailer immediately opening to those lines, it is enough to bring a sense of creep and chill to one’s bones. As children, there was always at least one thing—at least, one story—that scared us deeply. A lady in white, the monster under the bed or even the trailing eyes of a seemingly-innocent looking doll are just some of the typical childhood horror scenarios that have been repeatedly, over the past several years, been made into literature, television series or even books. The irony that people crave to watch the ultimate things that have scared them when they were children (or even scare then until now) is just one of the mysterious main reasons why the thriller/horror genre have survived to this point.

With Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, originally a series of children’s books by American author Alvin Shwartz, it tells the story of a group of friends who ends up wandering at the wrong place of their small town. They end up discovering a book with scary stories that the friends soon learn are more than just words written on a page. Upon realizing what the book really entails, the friends now try to find a way to destroy it all the while dealing with their own fears coming to life. And coming after them.

The movie adaptation was produced by Guillermo del Toro with André Øvredal credited as the director. It is set to be released on August 9th, 2019 in the United States.
