Leading global payments technology company, Visa recently awarded more than 500,000 Philippine pesos (US$10,000) scholarship to the Tulong Dunong Foundation Inc. (TDFI) for academic year 2018-2019.
This is the second time a Visa Scholarship has been awarded to the TDFI. This scholarship supports a deserving child throughout his or her entire six-year journey at Ateneo High School, one of the top private Jesuit schools in the Philippines.
“At Visa, we believe in giving back to the community we work and live. Through our employee charitable grant, I am thrilled that we were one of the 10 winners in Asia Pacific to win the grant which will go towards the Tulong Dunong Foundation. We hope that this scholarship will improve and bring quality of life and positive outcomes for less fortunate Filipinos who have huge potential to change their lives through education,” said Stuart Tomlinson, Visa Country Manager for the Philippines and Guam.
Every year, employees of Visa have the opportunity to submit a grant proposal to award a non-profit organization of their choice. In addition to the grant, employees also create volunteerism opportunities with their selected non-profit organizations. As part of the Visa employee charitable grant program, Visa Business Development Director, Jay Tirona successfully won a second proposal submission to support a second Visa Scholar. The first Visa Scholar recently completed his first semester at the Ateneo High School and has been exceling in both his academic and extra-curricular activities.
“Tulong Dunong is very grateful to Visa for once gain believing in the program. The Tulong Dunong platform continues to be a success in transforming the lives of its scholars and their families because of our generous benefactors. Their contributions allow us to keep on providing opportunities for talented, yet financially challenged students,” said Lito Rivera, President of the TDFI.
“Through these collaborative efforts, we hope to enable future leaders that will truly make a difference. From our scholars, salamat, Visa!” Mr. Rivera added.
