Synergeia Seeks The Best Education-Focused LGUs As Pandemic Reshapes Learning

Which city / municipality excelled in providing good education to its constituents even amidst the pandemic?

Millions of Filipinos are still hanging on to their 2G/3G Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards while the world around them is already enjoying the benefits of 4G mobile technology. However, with the pandemic which makes online learning, working, and entertainment a huge part of the lives of many people, 2G/3G users are missing out on a lot of opportunities.

4G opens up a wide range of experiences using the internet and other mobile applications. For 2G/3G mobile users, shifting to 4G would mean being able to enjoy the rich variety of content available on the web or the mobile apps.

Through the internet, anyone can watch their favorite movies and dramas, shop from online stores, conduct bank transactions, play online games, learn how to cook or play musical instruments, video chat with loved ones, upload photos on social media sites, use navigational tools, among a myriad of other activities.

To ensure that no one is left behind when it comes to mobile technology and services, Globe is giving its customers a way to have better connectivity and data experience by helping them shift to 4G without any cost.

“There are a lot of things you can do with your phone other than call, text, and take pictures. We want all our customers to experience the wonders of data connectivity so they too can learn, get entertained, socialize, shop, or even work within the confines of their own homes. They can only do that with 4G and other more advanced mobile technologies,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO.

To check if a SIM card is 4G-capable, Globe postpaid and prepaid customers only need to text SIM CHECK to 8080. Those who are still using 2G/3G SIM may bring their SIMs to the nearest Globe Stores to upgrade to 4G SIM for free. Postpaid Mobile customers can also request to have their SIMs changed via the GlobeOne App.

For customers who want to upgrade to 4G smartphones, various brands and models are available at very affordable prices at shop.globe.com.ph and at other online and physical stores. They may avail of the 4G devices as prepaid kits, a freebie with new postpaid lines, or for postpaid plan renewal.

2G or second generation mobile network came out in 1991 and uses digital radio signals for secure and reliable communications revolving around call and text. A decade later, 3G was introduced and it brought an important breakthrough in terms of basic mobile internet access. But these two technologies are nearing obsolescence, thus, many telecom companies in other countries have stopped offering 2G/3G services while others are already in the process of doing the same.

Globe continuously upgrades and expands its network and services in response to the growing demand for better data connectivity in different parts of the country. It is also the company’s commitment to support 10 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, such as UNSDG No. 9 on building resilient infrastructure, promoting sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation.
