UBER app will no longer function from April 9, 2018 onwards because of its partnership with Grab. But Uber Eats will still operate until the end of May.
All UBER operations will be moved to Grab and GrabFood platforms. The goal of the company is to combine the business to become the top ‘online-to-offline’ mobile platforms in Southeast Asia. According to reports, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi sent an email to a Uber staff regarding the partnership.
Here is a portion of the memo that CEO Dara Khosrowshahi sent:
“It is fair to ask whether consolidation is now the strategy of the day, given this is the third deal of its kind, from China to Russia and now Southeast Asia. The answer is no. One of the potential dangers of our global strategy is that we take on too many battles across too many fronts and with too many competitors. This transaction now puts us in a position to compete with real focus and weight in the core markets where we operate, while giving us valuable and growing equity stakes in a number of big and important markets where we don’t.
“While M&A will always be an important value-creation tool for our company, going forward we will be focused on organic growth—growth that comes from building the best products, services and technology in the world, and rebuilding our brand into the mobility brand that riders, cities and drivers want to support and partner with.”
Some customers were not pleased about the merging of the two companies.
i hate that grab bought uber and they’re merging bc grab is so expensive most of the time so i always use uber????? and it’s usually harder to get grab drivers lol and you can only use promos if u use grabpay but for uber u can use promos if u use either cash or credit card

Uber has agreed to sell its Southeast Asian operations to Grab.
I kinda like when both Uber and Grab are still rivals. I can choose whichever that has a cheaper fare. But now…

Uber and grab combining. Prices gonna shot high after this deal. Goodbye to all the promo's that we've enjoyed. But still prefer uber over grab. ?

How about you? Do you support the merging of the two rival companies? Will their service be better than when they are still rivals? Will they be more focused and give better accommodation than before?
