A revised version of implementing rules and regulations of the Anti-Distracted Driving Act was released by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) last Friday, June 9. Dash-cams and cellular phones are now allowed with the new provision if it is on the ‘safe zone’.
The ‘safe zone’ is where objects and gadgets are only 4 inches away from the dashboard and anything beyond from the mentioned distance is declared to be part of the ‘line of sight’, this is where the gadgets are not allowed.
Dash-cams are allowed if it is located behind the rear-view mirror. Using of navigation applications in mobile phones are also allowed as long as it is set before driving. However, texting and calling while driving or at a stop traffic light remains to be prohibited unless it is intended for emergencies.
Violators of Anti-Distracted Driving Act will be fined from 5,000 pesos up to 20,000 pesos or a revocation of license.
The revised driving act will be fully-implemented after 15 days of announcing the implementing rules and regulation.
