The Miss Universe Crown Couldn’t Handle Catriona Gray’s Energy During Her Welcome Parade

Onlookers during the Miss Universe parade last February noticed how a piece of Catriona Gray’s Mikimoto crown seemed to be missing. Yesterday, the Miss Universe Twitter account (@MissUniverse) posted a video that put the Miss U fans’ speculations to rest.

In the video, Gray explains how the crown broke as she was dancing to the drums of the parade’s moving band. Because of her dancing, a piece of the Mikimoto crown snapped off.

The Pheonix Mikimoto Crown is made of both yellow and white gold and is adorned with 18-carat diamonds and Japanese pearls. Said to be worth $250,000 (over P13 million), it is known to be the most coveted crown among beauty queens around the world.

Catriona Gray expressed her guilt for breaking the crown, as she is seen sheepishly apologizing in the Miss Universe video. Although it is unconfirmed whether the crown she was wearing was the actual Mikimoto crown or a replica, the Miss Universe team made sure that Catriona didn’t need to fret. They later tweeted that the crown will be “fixed in no time.”
