The provincial government of Surigao del Norte has received PHP9.5 million worth of hospital grade personal protective equipment (PPE) from the Department of Health (DOH) and the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), which would be distributed to all the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) front-liners in the province.

“Aside from Siargao Island, we will provide protective equipment for all our front-liners in the mainland Surigao del Norte and Surigao City,” said Surigao del Norte 1st Dist. Rep. Francisco Jose Matugas, in a statement Wednesday. The office of Matugas received the PPE last week.

Roberto Parada of the provincial information office said the PPE will be distributed after an inventory.

“We will proceed with the distribution process after the inventory. Aside from the personal protective equipment, the supplies include facemasks and face shields,” Parada said.

He said the Caraga Regional Hospital, Surigao del Norte Provincial Hospital, and the other medical and quarantine facilities in the province would receive protective gear.

As of Dec. 1, data from the DOH-13 showed that Surigao del Norte had a total of 296 Covid-19 cases, while its capital city of Surigao recorded 317 cases. (PNA)
