San Miguel Corporation president & chief operating officer Ramon Ang continues to push for the construction of a bridge connecting Boracay to Caticlan on mainland Panay Island to reduce the thousands of stay-in workers residing in the island-resort.

In an interview with reporters on Friday, Ang said the bridge will complement the government’s rehabilitation efforts in decongesting the island.

“With that (bridge), the 25,000 workers living in Boracay can live in the mainland and the tons of solid waste a day can be moved to the other side, you can also bring fresh water to Boracay so there won’t be no need to dig a deep well,” he said.

Ang said San Miguel Corporation has already submitted its proposal and is now waiting for the government’s approval.

“Kailangan i-follow-up kasi pag pinush ng cabinet rank mapapabilis ang takbo niyan. Matagal na pong na-submit and with that, gaganda lalo ang Boracay (There’s a need to follow-up and a push from a cabinet rank (official). We’ve already submitted (the proposal) and with that, Boracay will be more beautiful),” he said.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said the Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force (BIATF) is looking into the proposal. “Our chair is (Environment) Secretary (Roy) Cimatu, as I’ve heard, yes,” Puyat said.

On the next BIATF meeting, the official said the government will be talking to all stakeholders involved. (PNA)
