‘Rolly’ Sparks Bayanihan Among Filipinos To Help More Victims

Over 2 million people have been affected by the aftermath of typhoon “Rolly” (GONI) in all of the provinces in the Bicol region and some parts of Luzon, including Quezon province, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro. The death toll rises to 20; where 14 have been recorded in Albay and six in Catanduanes.

Super typhoon Rolly, recorded as one of the strongest typhoons, entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 11 am on October 29 and made its landfall at 4:50 am on Sunday, October 31.

According to PAGASA, Rolly is the 18th tropical storm for 2020 to enter the Philippines and the 5th tropical storm for October.

The country’s Public and Private Organizations from various entities are calling out for partnerships and donations to raise funds for the victims of typhoon Rolly. Organizations use the Hashtag #ReliefPH #RollyPH and #BangonBicol for easier involvement.

Here’s a list of organizations that you may contact:

UNICEF PH

As typhoon Rolly hits PH, UNICEF PH is closely eyeing the situation for children who were at risk of the situation.

“Together with UN agencies and our partners on the ground, we remain ready to assist national and local governments across all sectors when called upon,” stated UNICEF Philippines.

ABS-CBN Foundation Sagip Kapamilya

When the typhoon started to ruin the Bicol region, Sagip Kapamilya immediately responded and fed 1,490 people in Dinglan Aurora on Sunday.

“Sagip Kapamilya needs your help to reach out to Filipinos affected by the devastation brought about by Super Typhoon Rolly. Donations are accepted in the following platforms,” Sagip Kapamilya wrote on Twitter.

ABS-CBN Corporation is calling for monetary donations. One may donate through BDO (0039301-14199), BPI (3051-1155-88 / BOPIPHMM), Metrobank (636-3-636-08808-1 / MBTCPHMM), PNB (1263-7000-4128), Security Bank (000003312430-0 / SETCPHMM), as well as GCash and PayMaya

GMA Kapuso Foundation

On November 2, GMA Kapuso Foundation is said to be on its second wave in supplying the 3440 families with relief goods and clean water in some evacuation areas in Bicol.

“We appeal to your kind heart as we seek aid for our fellow Filipinos who have no means of livelihood due to the enhanced community quarantine. With the strength of our unity and our compassion for each other, we can overcome these trying times” wrote on their site.

Kalinga Sa Panahon Ng Pandemya

Kalinga Sa Panahon ng Pandemya is accepting in-kind donations such as clothes, rice, and canned goods. They are also calling for monetary donations. One may donate through PNB Jemimah Keren R. Ladeza 107910038784, or GCash Maverick Segismundo 09772190229. Donors can also visit Kalinga’s Facebook Page or Instagram account (@kalingasapandemya) for further details.

“We are accepting in-kind donations such as clothes, rice, canned goods & etc. For monetary donations, please do send us the receipt or screenshot of the donation for transparency purposes. Tulong Kabataan Network

Tulong Kabataan Network is addressing cash donations through BPI Savings Account (008339473553), and BDO (012220013436). For in-kind, one may contact Joshua Marcial (09152683515), or their GCash number (09169131297).

“For transparency update, Tulong Kabataan Network already gathered 57,000 Pesos in Gcash alone. For our initial activity, we will be conducting our relief operations tomorrow for the victims of the fire in Bacoor, Cavite. We encourage everyone to continue to donate!” Tulong Kabataan wrote on Twitter.

BTS PH ARMY

A fan-base account supporting BTS in the Philippines also calls for donations.

Fans can donate clothes, instant food, water, pillows, and blankets. Others can also send money through GCash (09954709874/09565966307), BPI (Mieshaila Mungcal/8139127537), Palawan Pawnshop, or Cebuana (Melyka Mungcal/09954709874).

Bayan Muna is accepting ready-to-eat food, drinking water, clothes, hygiene kits, and medicine. One may drop the item at Block 31 Lot 13 A. Bonifacio St., New Capitol Estate 1, Brgy. Kabataan Partylist

The Kabataan Partylist led by Rep. Sarah Elago, together with the volunteers, are starting to distribute donations at Bacoor Elementary School Evacuation Center to help the 400 families who were affected by Rolly.

“Nananawagan ang Kabataan Partylist ng donasyon para sa mga kapatid nating nasalanta at nawalan ng kabuhayan dahil sa Bagyong Rolly,” Kabataan Partylist wrote on Twitter.

Anakbayan

Anakbayan is accepting face masks, clothes, sanitary napkins, food, water, medicines, hygiene kits, and rubbing alcohol. “Ang Pambansang Tanggapan ng Anakbayan ay tumatanggap rin ng in-kind donations para mga kababayan nating naapektuhan ng Bagyong Rolly,” Anakbayan wrote on Twitter.

Lingap Gabriela

Lingap Gabriela is said to support the Typhoon Rolly victims by calling Filipino Women advocates and out of the country citizens to offer a helping hand.

“CALL FOR DONATIONS The GABRIELA Alliance of Filipino Women calls on all its members and allies in the Philippines and overseas to mobilize relief efforts for our fellow Filipinos affected by supertyphoon Rolly (international name: Goni). Help. Donate. Volunteer,” Lingap Gabriela wrote on Twitter.

Ako Bakwit

Ako Bakwit is accepting any form of donation except used clothes due to coronavirus health and safety protocols.

“Sabay-sabay tayong babangon. Sa mga may kakayanang tumulon, kami po ay tumatanggap ng mga donasyon para sa mga kababayan nating apektado ng bagong #RollyPH at #SionyPH,” Ako Bakwit wrote on Twitter.

Sining Banwa

Sining Banwa is a native cultural group in Bicol who aims to voice out the needs of their fellow Bicolano for fast-recovery.

“Nananawagan po kami para sa kagyat na tulong sa mga komunidad na labis na pinsala ng Bagyong Rolly sa Albay – mga pamilyang nawalan ng bahay, kabuhayan at mga mahal sa buhay,” Sining Banwa wrote on Facebook.

Sining Banwa is also calling for volunteers to help recover small businesses around Cagsawa Park. One may visit Sining Banwa on Facebook for more details such as drop-off locations and bank accounts.

Other Efforts

Filipinos are always known for their “Bayanihan Act” and it is proven again when celebrities took advantage of their time to call for actions and seek donations using their social media to support the victims of Typhoon Rolly.

Starting with Sen. Manny Pacquiao, who took a video of himself addressing other Filipinos to pray despite the emerging cases of the virus and now the typhoon. The senator stated that there is no other powerful being that could help but God. He also assures that the government and he will never abandon the Filipino in times of need.

Angel Locsin, who is known for her generosity, leads her social media followers to submit a video showing their situation. The first 1000 entries will receive an immediate Php 1,000 aid through Gcash on November 2 to 3.

“Sa aming maliit na paraan, nais po naming makapag-abot tulong sa mga kababayan nating nasalanta ng bagyong Rolly thru Gcash. Though we would like to reach out to everyone who is in need, our resources are limited and can only accommodate the first 1,000 valid requests,” she captioned.

Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, known to have roots in Bicol, also calls to donate Php 100 to Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and to Love Yourself the Philippines to help more people and communities.

“I am calling all kind-hearted donors and humanitarian partners to help support the Red Cross in their response operations,” called the Queen.

Miss Philippines Earth-Fire 2020 Share Tormes, whose family comes from the Bicol region, also shared an Instagram story to call for donations.

Meanwhile, other personalities like Bianca Gonzales and Gary Valenciano shared Sagip Kapamilya foundation’s post on their different social media accounts.

Both TV Host Gretchen Ho and OPM legend, Ogie Alcasid have called a drive for donation supporting the World Vision Philippines. Ogie organized a virtual concert through World Vision Philippines stating, “We can help our kababayan who have been affected by typhoon Rolly through @worldvisionphl.”

Actor Enchong Dee, a native Bicolano, used Instagram to request his friends to send him a private message to help his fellow-citizens in Bicol. He also said that donations are better in-kind and not in cash.

Lastly, Actress Janine Guitierrez shared a post from Tanging Yaman Foundation for the same intent.
