Senator Grace Poe on Monday said she will not mount a second bid for the presidency in 2022.
Poe, who lost to then Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in the 2016 presidential race, said she could still contribute to the country by running for reelection to her Senate seat rather than taking another shot at the presidency.
“Alam mo siguro nakalipas na ‘yon sapagkat nabigyan na ako ng pagkakataon. Marami naman diyang puwede na maaaring i-konsidera ng ating mga kababayan (That’s already in the past, and I was already given a chance. There are other potential candidates for the public to consider.),” Poe said in an interview in Obrero Public Market on Blumentritt Road, Manila.
“Kahit naman sa Senado marami rin naman tayong puwedeng maitulong (Even in the Senate, we could still do something for the country),” Poe added.
Poe brought her campaign at the public market to hear the concerns of vendors, as she called for more government assistance to aid small-time market vendors amid attempts for modernization.
“Sa mga palengke, kailangan talaga ang maayos na puwesto para sa mga vendors at hindi puwedeng gagawa ng isang pribadong merkado na hindi sila maisasama doon. Dapat ang renta affordable, maayos (In marketplaces, a decent stall is important for vendors and it cannot be privatized without including these small-time vendors. The rent should be affordable and good),” Senator Poe said. (PNA)
