The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday reported 3,281 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, raising the overall tally to 241,987 with only 52,893 active cases.

The DOH said the additional cases reported were based on the total Covid-19 tests done by 81 out of 115 operational laboratories.

The 34 laboratories which failed to submit their data to the Covid-19 Data Repository System include AL Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory, Amosup Seamen’s Hospital, Bohol Containerized PCR Laboratory, Butuan Medical Center, Cagayan Valley CHD TB Reference Laboratory, Calamba Medical Center, Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, Dagupan Doctors Villaflor Memorial Hospital, Daniel O. Mercado Medical Center, Detoxicare Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, Dr. Arturo P. Pingoy Medical Center, Fe Del Mundo Medical Center, Green City Medical Center, Hi-Precision Diagnostics QC, and Ilocos Training Regional Medical Center (GX).

Marikina Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory, Marilao Medical and Diagnostic Clinic, NKTI – GX, Philippine Airport Diagnostic Laboratory, Philippine Heart Center, Philippine Red Cross, Philippine Red Cross – Clark Mol Lab (Pampanga), Philippine Red Cross – Logistics and Training- Subic, Zambales, Philippine Red Cross – Molecular Biology Laboratory, Philippine Red Cross – PLMC Laboratory, Philippine Red Cross – Port Area, Qualimed Hospital – San Jose del Monte, Qualimed Hospital Sta. Rosa, Safeguard DNA Diagnostics, San Lazaro Hospital, San Miguel Foundation Testing Laboratory, The Doctors Hospital, Inc., Tondo Medical Center, and the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta were not also able to submit their data.

It reported that of the active cases, about 88.6 percent are mild, 8.2 percent are asymptomatic, 1.3 percent severe, and 1.9 percent are critical.

The majority of the newly announced cases were from the National Capital Region (NCR) with 1,420 cases, Cavite with 263 cases, Negros Occidental with 204 cases, Laguna with 197 cases, and Rizal with 196 cases.

“Of the 3,281 reported cases today, 2,932 or 89 percent occurred within the recent 14 days (August 26 – September 8, 2020) and the top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were NCR with 1,275 or 43 percent, Region 4A (Calabarzon) with 743 or 25 percent and Region 3 (Central Luzon) with 292 or 10 percent,” the DOH said in its daily case bulletin.

The department also reported 286 new recoveries and 26 deaths, bringing the total number of recoveries to 185,178 and the number of deaths to 3,916.

“Of the 26 deaths, 14 occurred in September (54 percent), eight in August which is 31 percent and four in July which is 15 percent and the deaths were from NCR with nine or 35 percent, Region 7 (Central Visayas) with four or 15 percent, Region 4A (Calabarzon) with three or 12 percent, Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) with two or 8 percent, Region 11 (Davao Region) with two or 8 percent, Region 4B (Mimaropa) with two or 8 percent, Region 5 (Bicol) with one or 4 percent, Region 6 (Western Visayas) with one or 4 percent, and Region 8 (Eastern Visayas) with one or 4 percent,” the DOH said.

It added that some 21 duplicates were removed from the total case count and of these, seven recovered cases have been removed.

“Moreover, there were seven cases that were previously reported as recovered but after final validation, they were deaths,” the DOH said.

As of Monday, the 89 licensed reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratories and 28 licensed GeneXpert laboratories have conducted a total of 2,686,157 tests nationwide.

The DOH said it has a 21,200 total bed capacity dedicated to Covid-19 patients.

Occupied are about 49 percent of 1,800 intensive care unit beds; 44 percent of 13,700 isolation beds; and 50 percent of 5,700 ward beds.

About 27 percent of 2,100 ventilators are in use. (PNA)
