The Hotel Sales and Marketing Association (HSMA) on Wednesday confirmed that some hotels have received payments from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

“Payments are coming in to some hotels. We appreciate the commitment by OWWA through Administrator Atty. Hans Leo Cacdac, (Deputy Administrator) Judge (Rodrigo) Pascua and Director of Finance Hermie Mendoza,” the group said in a statement. “We are allowing the process to take place.”

The HSMA earlier revealed that OWWA owes some PHP241.17 million to about 20 hotels currently accommodating overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) under quarantine.

Last Wednesday, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III ordered OWWA to settle its unpaid bills within seven days.

The HSMA has around 150 member hotels, 70 percent of which are operating as quarantine facilities. (PNA)
