PAL’s Enhanced Airbus A330 Goes To Honolulu

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines’ (PAL) enhanced Airbus A330 started its Manila-Honolulu flight Thursday.

Currently, PAL has only one unit of this aircraft, which it will be using for the Manila-Honolulu-Manila routes starting this month.

The airline targets to have additional units of this 309-seater tri-class model aircraft, which PAL said it will unveil in July for Melbourne, in August for Sydney, in September for Singapore, in October for Haneda, in November for Narita, and in December for Osaka routes.

PAL president Jaime Bautista noted that the company aims to become a 5-star, world-class, full service carrier “with a heart”, catering to the customers’ needs.

The airline has converted the cabin layout of eight mono-class 414-seater A330-300 into the reconfigured A330.

Level up in business class

There are various improvements in the A330’s business class section.

Passengers can turn their seats into a massage chair during their flights. There’s also an option for a full-flat recline if they want to sleep, or just relax, for instance.

Business class seats have a Pneumatic Comfort System (PCS) which, according to PAL, allows one to adjust seat firmness according to preference. “We are the first Asian carrier to offer the PCS,” PAL said.

Wider screens are also available where passengers can view movies, browse the internet, or select the menu. There is also a selection they could click to tell flight attendants not to disturb them, or not to wake them up during serving of meals.

A new headset, a joystick, a lighting that one can control based on his/her mood are just among the features that passengers in the business class can expect.

PAL has tapped the Thompson Vintage XL brand for the aircraft’s 18 business class seats. Apart from the 44 inches legroom, seats in this class have an all-aisle access.

Passengers in the premium economy and economy seats can also expect for a wider legroom.

The Airbus A330 has 24 premium economy seats designed by Zodiac 5810 brand. Seats can also be reclined at 8 inches.

The Economy Zodiac brand, on the other hand, made the 267 economy seats with a legroom of 32 inches.

Seats in both the business and premium economy class offer a leg rest, footrest as well as a coat hook.

All passengers can charge their mobile devices through the USB port installed in their seats.

The airline also highlighted that Airbus A330 passengers can stay connected as the aircraft is equipped with myPAL wi-fi. (MCCA/PNA)
