The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist has reported a total damage of PHP 8,956,556 to agricultural crops due to heavy rains experienced recently in Antique.
Nicolasito “Nick” Calawag said in an interview that the damage to crops were consolidated by his office and reported to the Department of Agriculture Regional Office 6 hoping for an assistance to be given to affected farmers.
He said that the heavy rains last August 3 and 4 affected 10 Antique towns of Hamtic, Belison, Sibalom, San Remigio, San Jose, Sebaste, Tibiao, Barbaza, Libertad and Bugasong.
The agricultural crops, particularly palay, were flooded while these were on different stages of crop development and that some were supposedly to be harvested this August or September.
There were also around 696 farmers affected, with 455 of them from the town of Sibalom.
