Nike is honoring NBA champion Giannis Antetokounmpo with the unveiling of a new pair of sneakers named “Giannis Immortality,” which was created by a Filipino designer, Kevin Reyes.

“From an unknown prospect to one of the best players in the league—Giannis’s relentless work ethic and unmatched passion make him a transformative athlete. The Greek Freak inspires the next generation of basketball players around the globe to be the best versions of themselves,” Nike stated on their website.

Reyes highlighted his excitement for the new project by posting a sneak peek at the new Nike kicks that he designed on his Instagram account on April 30, 2021, shortly after the release was announced.

“The ‘Giannis Immortality’ is coming this summer 2021! Less (Let’s) go!!!” he added.

He also shared more shoe concepts from the upcoming Giannis Immortality collection.

Aside from the Giannis Immortality line, Reyes also designed the “Nike Mamba Focus” in 2019 that honors the legendary Kobe Bryant.

It’s a dream come true for him since Kobe was the one who motivated him to be so passionate about basketball that he draws sneakers on the back of his notebook.

Reyes is a Filipino footwear designer working in the United States. He studied Industrial Design for three years at the University of Santo Tomas before moving to the United States in 2009. He was also a member of their Arts Department’s Judo and Football Teams.

He is still working on his Industrial Design degree at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Currently, he’s been working as Footwear Designer II in WMNS Performance Running Fast at Nike.
