Being one of the top sports brands globally, Nike is prone to be an instrument of style and function to athletes and fitness buffs with various backgrounds, races and religion. Just in time for women’s month, Nike taps on the importance of inclusiveness by releasing a collection of performance Hijabs for Muslim athletes.
The brand made sure to produce quality hijabs that still carry a lightweight and breathable fabric. They veer away from the traditional cotton hijabs and have utilized their iconic power mesh that is more functional for sports and competitions. They’ve also paid attention to details that each athlete may need, taking for example a hijab with extra length on the back for skater who need to keep it tucked in during performances.
While in the process of its creation, Nike made sure to involve experienced Muslim athletes such as Zahra Lari. They also collected opinions from multiple communities to assure that the design of their hijab respects the cultural requirements. Nike has yet to announce the official date of the release but has advised it to be expected early next year, 2018.
