The National Housing Authority (NHA) and the city government are targeting to provide permanent shelters to all internally displaced persons (IDPs) on or before this June.
Leonida Bayan, City Social Welfare and Development Office assistant chief, said the city government is eyeing to close all transitory sites and to transfer all the IDPs to permanent shelters before June.
At present, there are still 11 transitory sites housing at least 1,500 families displaced during the 21-day September 2013 siege.
These are located in the barangays of Mampang, Kasanyangan, Sta. Catalina, Rio Hondo, Upper Calarian, Tulungatung and Taluksangay.
“We hope to close, if possible, all transitory sites before June,” Bayan said.
Al-Khwarizmi Indanan, NHA district manager, said they are rushing the completion of all the permanent shelters for the IDPs.
Earlier, Indanan announced the completion of 5,300 out of the total 6,300 permanent shelters target for construction under the Zamboanga City Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstructions (Z3R).
He said 3,300 of the completed 5,300 units have already been awarded to the beneficiaries, leaving a balance of 2,000 houses still to be awarded. They will be awarded to rightful beneficiaries after the verification by the City Housing and Land Management Division.
“We assure our clients (IDPs) that the construction of permanent shelters will be completed by the end of June,” Indanan said. (PNA) TPGJR/RGAAG
