Netizens gave two thumbs up on OPM icon Rico Blanco’s fresh take on the classic “Pinoy Big Brother” official soundtrack “Pinoy Ako,” now titled “Pinoy Tayo,” which he performed on the “ASAP Natin ‘To” stage on Sunday (September 5).

Rico performed the new version of the hit OPM song that will serve as the official theme song of “Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Kumunity Season 10” together with Big Brother’s ex-housemates and Big Winners like Kim Chiu, Maymay Entrata, Melai Cantiveros, Robi Domingo, Edward Barber, Loisa Andalio, and Maris Racal.

YouTube user Christine Loy adored the song saying, “A chic, edgy, and fresh take on Pinoy Ako. Awesome performance by Rico Blanco.”

As for Twitter user @jkthelagogh, the rendition sounds “cool.” She tweeted, “Wait, ang cool pakinggan ‘nung version ni Rico Blanco ng Pinoy Ako. PBB season na nga ulit.”

Netizen Shyra Dee was also impressed with “Pinoy Tayo,” which is the lead single in the 25-track album of hitmaker and ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo, for his 20th year in the music industry.

“Wooah! Love the version. Thank you sir Jonathan Manalo. Hoping mapanood ulit si Rico at Maris sa ASAP stage,” Shyra commented in the video that is available on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube channel.

Jonathan served as the supervising producer of the single, while Rico was the producer. The former “Rivermaya” vocalist also added new lyrics to the original “Pinoy Ako” song that was penned by Jonathan and Clem Castro and was popularized by the band, “Orange and Lemons.”

Since the start of the ‘ber’ months, Big Brother has been serving online daily tasks for aspiring housemates on the Pinoy community platform Kumu, which will continue to entertain audition entries from 20 to 40 year old hopefuls until September 30. On the other hand, online auditions for the teen edition (aged 15 to 19 years old) will start on December 1 until 31.
