NegOcc Transition Team Prepares For Takeover Of New Guv

The transition team formed by outgoing Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. has begun preparing for the change of leadership in the provincial government on June 30.

Acting Provincial Administrator Lucille Gelvolea said the governor issued the directive to create a transition team first week of May to ensure a smooth and orderly transfer of power and responsibilities to the incoming administration.

“(The governor) encourages all department and office heads to give their full support to the transition into the administration of the incoming governor,” Gelvolea said in a statement on Tuesday.

Outgoing Vice Governor Jose Eugenio “Bong” Lacson will take over the top Capitol post after Marañon steps down on June 30 as he completes his 3 terms.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum Circular 2019-39 requires the creation of local governance transition teams to be chaired by the local chief executive with the vice chair to be elected from among the members by simple majority vote.

“We followed the DILG memorandum circular to create a transition team for the new administration,” Gelvolea said.
Marañon chairs the transition team, with Provincial Planning and Development Office head Ma. Lina Sanogal as vice chair. All the department and office heads are members, along with DILG-Negros Occidental director Carmelo Orbista and a representative of the business sector.

The tasks of the transition team include the conduct of an inventory of local government unit (LGU) properties, securing of all official documents and records of LGU transactions, and a briefing on the key challenges for the incoming set of officials for a seamless leadership and management transition.

Gelvolea said they will present to Lacson’s transition team the province’s accomplishments in the past years and the plans of the departments and offices for 2019-2020. (PNA)
