The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Tuesday said it has collected a total of PHP3 million from the combat pay of its police officers which will be donated to the victims of Taal Volcano’s eruption.

“We want to help because it is for a meaningful cause. A majority of our people and our officers contributed,” NCRPO acting chief, Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas told a press briefing at the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 10.

Sinas said each NCRPO personnel is encouraged to donate an amount “equivalent to one day of their combat pay and combat incentive pay,” which, is at least PHP100.

Sinas said the amount would be turned over first to the national headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Aside from the donation, the NCRPO has also held medical missions and distributed relief goods to the victims of the volcanic eruption.

Meanwhile, the NCRPO has started giving cash assistance of PHP10,000 to each of its police officers affected by the calamity.

A total of 514 personnel of the NCRPO were affected by the eruption — 492 policemen and 22 non-uniformed personnel (NUP).

The collection was in support of the call of PNP chief, Gen. Archie Gamboa for each policeman to donate at least PHP10 for the affected residents of the Taal Volcano eruption.

Gamboa said the PNP earlier collected a total of PHP2.5 million for the civilian victims from the donation drive from all of its personnel. (PNA)
