The coronavirus cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) are seen to drop to less than 1,900 new cases per day by May 14, the latest monitoring report by OCTA Research showed.

In its May 9 report, OCTA Research said Metro Manila’s reproduction number, used to describe the number of people who can get the virus from a Covid-19 positive person, decreased to 0.67 from 0.69. If the number is less than 1, the epidemic curve is flattening, but a number higher than 1 means the virus is spreading.

From May 2 to 8, the average number of new cases daily in the NCR was 2,172. Among the regions, the NCR has the highest number of coronavirus cases.

The current daily average is 61 percent lower compared to the peak of the surge on March 29 to April 4.

Meanwhile, the one-week growth rate in the NCR was -31 percent. The positivity rate in the NCR over the past week was 14 percent, from an average of 23,100 tests per day.

Hospital bed occupancy in the NCR for Covid-19 decreased to 50 percent. Meanwhile, intensive care unit occupancy decreased to 822 with a utilization rate of 67 percent.

On Sunday the Department of Health reported 9,197 new recovered cases, pushing the total number of Covid-19 recoveries nationwide to 1,022,224.

According to the DOH, the figure is equivalent to a 92.8-percent recovery rate among those who contracted the infectious disease.

The DOH also tallied 7,174 new confirmed Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of active cases to 61,294. (PNA)
