The rehabilitation of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) continues with the installation of new wooden rail sleepers now underway at the MRT-3 depot in Quezon City.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the MRT-3 said a total of 84 pieces of new wooden rail sleepers have so far been installed since Jan. 12.

“Target na makapaglagay ng kabuuang 415 piraso ng wooden sleepers sa buong MRT-3 depot (The target is to install a total of 415 pieces of wooden sleepers in the entire MRT-3 depot),” the MRT-3 said in a statement.

These wooden rail sleepers, it said, are placed under the rails at the depot to provide stability for transiting trains.

“Natapos na ang rail replacement works sa mainline noong Setyembre 2020, ilang buwan na mas maaga sa target completion date nito sa Pebrero 2021 (Rail replacement works at the mainline has been completed in September 2020, several months ahead of its target completion date of February 2021),” the statement read.

On Monday, the MRT-3 has served a total of 168,945 passengers, the highest number of passengers it has served in one day since it resumed operations on June 1, 2020.

The increase in passengers served, it said, was the result of the increased passenger capacity and faster travel speed of its trains as well as having a high number of running and operational train sets. (PNA)
