Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber—collectively known as MayWard—lead the kiligfest in Cinema One’s premiere of “Loving in Tandem” this Sunday (March 18).
“Loving in Tandem,” directed by Giselle Andres and produced by Star Cinema, is the first film topbilled by rising stars Maymay and Edward. It also stars MayWard’s fellow “Pinoy Big Brother Lucky Season 7” housemates Kisses Delavin and Marco Gallo.
The romantic comedy follows the story of bright and determined Shine (Maymay), willing to do anything for her family. She meets the balikbayan Luke (Edward) in the most unusual circumstance. With a bit of a language barrier getting in the way, the two accidentally put themselves in an awkward situation when Luke announces in their entire barangay that Shine is his “jowa.”
Will the language of their hearts triumph over whatever differences Shine and Luke have? How will they change each other’s lives?
Movie review blog My Movie World commends the newbie pair’s fresh take on the big screen saying, “MayWard are so cute together and delightful to watch onscreen with chemistry on point that will not only make you kilig but will also make you cry. The film touches your heart showing the importance of family in life.”
Oggs Cruz of Rappler also praises director Giselle Andres’s work for setting the film in a more realistic environment. He wrote, “Loving in Tandem is that unique mainstream rom-com that doesn’t seem to shy away from depicting poverty. Its very earnest effort to situate a spritely romance within dire situations that would have individuals cross certain legal and moral lines is laudable.”
