The city government of Marawi suspended classes from elementary to high school levels on Tuesday.
The recommendation came from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) after its assessment that risk was high due to inclement weather and continuous heavy rains brought by Tropical Depression Falcon.
“Yes, kanina (earlier) 7 a.m., I declared the suspension of classes in elementary and high school. However, government offices are still in operation except in cases where areas are submerged with flood waters,” Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra said in a text message to the Philippine News Agency.
There has been no official report of damages caused by heavy rains forwarded to Gandamra’s office yet but he said the DRRM Council will convene anytime today to make the necessary assessment and action. (PNA)
