The Mandaue City health office has reported that the youngest coronavirus infection in the locality is a newborn baby boy who is currently admitted at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

In a statement, the Mandaue City Public Information Office reported on Tuesday that the only new confirmed case is the infant identified as patient MC113.

According to a report, the baby’s parents are residing in Sitio Riverside, Barangay Looc. It added that the infant’s mother was not infected with coronavirus.

The statement said the baby is the 113th Covid-19 case in Mandaue. However, the case is not reflected yet in the Department of Health (DOH)-Central Visayas’ list of coronavirus-infected patients released before dawn on Tuesday.

Of the 113 cases, 11 are admitted in different hospitals, three are on home quarantine, and the rest are at the Mandaue City Jail.

DOH-7 regional director Jaime Bernadas also said Mandaue has five recoveries and three fatalities due to Covid-19.

However, Mayor Jonas Cortes updated the figures on recoveries to six laboratory negative as of Tuesday noon.

“On the other hand, repeat swabs of patients MC10 and MC14 still came back positive, which means they have not yet fully recovered from the disease,” his statement read.

Meanwhile, the city health office of Mandaue recorded 247 persons under monitoring for suspicion of Covid-19 infection. This is on top of 1,236 other suspected cases who have completed the 14-day quarantine.

As of Monday, the health authorities have done contact tracing to 136 persons.

They also recorded 113 severe acute respiratory illnesses and 46 influenza-like illnesses.

Mandaue, along with Cebu, has been reverted to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from modified enhanced community quarantine as directed by the Inter-Agency Task for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID) through Resolution No. 37.

The two cities as well as Lapu-Lapu requested IATF to place them back under ECQ, but the national government placed Lapu-Lapu under general community quarantine.

Cebu City also reported a newborn baby being tested positive for coronavirus. However, Mayor Edgardo Labella later announced that the baby yielded a negative result in the retest. (PNA)
