The Philippine Malditas missed out on their first chance of claiming their very first FIFA Women’s World Cup stint after bowing to China, 0-3, in the second day of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Amman, Jordan on Monday night (Philippine time).
A brace from Li Ying highlighted China’s stomping on the Malditas as the team secured a spot in the semifinals and a FIFA WWC seat for the seventh time.
Li drew first blood for the Chinese side in the 17th minute with a close-range effort, while Ma Jun fired a goal from outside the box in the 31st minute for the 2-0 count. Li sealed the win for China with her second goal in the 57th minute.
The Malditas threatened to enter the scoreboard, but their late tries went over the post.
China remains on top of their group with a perfect six points after two matches.
The Malditas, on the other hand, remained at three points, and they now need to get a win against Thailand on Friday (Philippine time) to join China in the next round. Thailand will face Jordan early Tuesday (Philippine time) in a potential eliminator. (PNA)
