“Riverdale” star Lili Reinhart is in the works with a new project at hand. Recently, it has been announced that she is on board to both star and executive produce (a first for the actress) Amazon Studios’ film adaptation of the young-adult novel “Our Chemical Hearts” by Krystal Sutherland.
“Our Chemical Hearts” focuses on senior high school student and hopeless romantic Henry Page who has always dreamed of finally experiencing the I’m-so-in-love-I-can’t-even-breathe kind of love almost everybody else also dreams of feeling. Unfortunately, for Henry, things haven’t quite lined up just yet when it comes to his love life especially as he has been focused on other things like school, getting into a good enough college and being the editor for his school newspaper. Even if his love life has been somewhat on hold, Henry is quite happy with his state of affairs at the moment. That is until transfer student Grace Town (played by Lili Reinhart) comes into his life.
And she isn’t like any other girl. Walking with a cane and usually sporting baggy boy clothes, Grace is not exactly the type to obviously care much about looks. Nevertheless, as she and Henry are both assigned to edit the school newspaper, Henry quickly falls for her and is determined to help Grace, who seems to carry some internal struggles, see the brighter side of life once again.
The movie adaption is in partnership with RespectAbility which is a non-profit organization whose aim is to remove any stigmas set with the showcasing or portrayal of disabilities within several media and entertainment platforms including movies. It also aims for the more accurate representation of these disabilities on screen.
So far, there has been no official release date for “Chemical Hearts” yet although it has been reported that filming is already underway.
