Officials in Lanao del Sur province have suspended classes in all levels, both public and private, due to heavy rains and strong winds spawned by Tropical Storm Basyang.
Lanao del Sur Vice Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. issued the suspension aimed at ensuring the safety of residents from the storm as the province and Marawi City were listed under Storm Signal No. 1 by the country’s weather office.
Adiong explained that the directive was based on the recommendation of the Lanao del Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. During the recent Tropical Storm Vinta which hit Lanao del Sur, where thousands of residents were badly affected because they were caught by surprise when Vinta pummeled the island of Mindanao last December.
Millions of pesos worth of infrastructure projects such as roads, government buildings and bridges had been damaged.
This time, Adiong said, the residents are prepared to remain safe and unharmed. (PNA)
