The Japanese government expressed solidarity with the Philippines in its efforts to contain the highly contagious coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“The government and the people of Japan are in solidarity with the Philippines as we fight the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope that everyone stays safe and healthy amidst the challenging times,” Japan Ambassador to Manila Koji Haneda said in a statement on Thursday.

As a close partner of the Philippines, the envoy said Tokyo “stands together” with the country in addressing the global health situation.

“Together with the rest of the world, we will get through this,” he said.

Several countries have also extended support to the Philippines amid the implementation of enhanced community quarantine in its largest region, Luzon.

On Tuesday, the US government earmarked over PHP139 million to assist the Department of Health in implementing infectious disease threat prevention and response strategies.

The Chinese Embassy in Manila has likewise donated 2,000 Covid-19 test kits and pledged 100,000 more to the Philippines, including essential medical supplies.

In a tweet, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said Turkey has also sent its test kits samples to the Philippines. (PNA)
