Ilocos Village Gives Valentine ‘Love’ To Elders, PWDs

This Valentine, the local leadership of Barangay Poblacion, Burgos, Ilocos Norte is giving out grocery items to senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) through the “Handog Mula sa Puso” program.

Poblacion village chief Joegie Jimenez said Tuesday the project is a way of expressing love and care to the less fortunate ones.

At least 160 senior citizens and 38 PWDs are the listed beneficiaries and some of them have started to receive the grocery items today. Distribution will continue on Valentine’s Day.

Jimenez said the simple gift-giving project funded by the village is held at the Barangay Hall. The schedule for February 14 is at 2 pm.

On the same day, village officials will also spearhead the “Barangay Hataw” sports fitness program.

“In support of the fitness program of the government, we are implementing the Barangay Hataw to promote health and wellness and to encourage more of our youth to embrace these kinds of activities instead of others that could hamper their future,” Jimenez said.

Meanwhile, various clothing items contained in at least three “balikbayan” boxes from California courtesy of a Good Samaritan, Fred Jamorabon, will be given away to 115 indigents in the barangay who could hardly buy new clothes. (PNA)
