The island-province of Guimaras is joining the 2017 Aliwan Festival in Metro Manila on April 21 and 22.
Jaypee Kein Entredicho, Guimaras public information officer, confirmed Tuesday that the province is joining the Aliwan, which is one of the major tourism events in the country.
The “Hubon Binagtong sa Manggahan” of Cabalagnan National High School in Nueva Valencia town will represent the island-province’s Manggahan Festival.
“After Guimaras won the Kasadyahan competition in the last Dinagyang Festival, the Province and stakeholders decided to pool its resources to have the Manggahan Festival and the island-province represented in Aliwan,” he said.
The province is setting aside some Php5 million to support the needs of the more than a hundred Aliwan delegation from Guimaras.
“The funds will come from the province, the Department of Tourism, Aliwan Fest organizers, the LGU Nueva Valencia, with the support of the tribe sponsors,” he said.
Hubon Binagtong sa Manggahan was a major winner in the Dinagyang Kasadyahan last January 2017. Aside from the championship crown, it bagged six of the minor awards.
The Provincial Government sees the Aliwan Fest exposure as very timely. Guimaras is busy preparing for this year’s Manggahan Festival set on May 11-21, 2017.
Manggahan Fest this year is extra special, said Entredicho. Unlike in the previous year, the Province invited all festivals in Region 6 to perform in the WV Invitational Cultural Presentation. To date, two festivals already confirmed participation — Dinagyang of Iloilo City and Pintados de Passi of Passi City.
The Festival will kick off with a grand caravan on March 31, and the five-week Manggahan sa Kabanwahanan will be held until May 7, 2017.
From May 11-21, activities will all be held at the Provincial Capitol grounds in Barangay San Miguel here.
To promote Guimaras’ micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), Patilaw sa Manggahan, an exhibit of Guimaras products will be held at SM City Iloilo and Robinsons Iloilo.
Other activities include Shoot Fest, Truck Fest and 4×4 Offroad Challenge, Tour De Guimaras, Motocross Challenge and Freestyle Event, Mango Eat-All-You-Can, Bike Exhibit and Kiddie Fun Ride, Enduro National Championship Race, among others.
This year’s theme is “Guimaras: Sadto. Subong. Kag sa Masanag nga Palaabuton.” The province will also celebrate its 25th Provincehood Anniversary this year. (PNA) MADE LOS SANTOS
