The government targets to have all uniformed personnel to be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) by August, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said on Monday.

In a televised Cabinet meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte, Año said this includes members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

“Ayon nga po sa plano ni (National Task Force against Covid-19 Chief Implementer) Secretary Charlie Galvez ay ngayong August po ang buong PNP, BJMP, at BFP kasama ng AFP ay makakatanggap na ng — I mean, ang lahat po ng ating mga unipormadong hanay ay mafu-fully vaccinated na (According to Secretary Charlie Galvez’s plan, the entire PNP, BJMP, and BFP along with the AFP will receive — I mean, all of our uniformed ranks will be fully vaccinated),” he said.

At present, Año said 50,567 PNP personnel got their first vaccine dose while 15,423 are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, 13,613 BFP personnel received their first dose while 6,853 received their second dose.

A total of 11,378 BJMP personnel got their first vaccine dose while 8,846 are fully vaccinated.

Last week, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said a total of 40,059 AFP personnel have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

He, however, did not mention whether these personnel are partially or fully vaccinated.

Uniformed personnel together with front-liners in essential sectors are included in the government’s A4 vaccination priority sector.

Meanwhile, Año reported that over 38 million individuals have so far been registered for vaccination against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in their respective local government units (LGUs).

“Sa ngayon ay umabot na sa 38,663,123 ang bilang ng ating mga kababayang nakapagparehistro na sa kani-kanilang mga LGU upang makapagpabakuna ayon sa pinakahuling datos ng vaccination monitoring system ng DILG (So far, we have 38,663,123 Filipinos who have been registered for vaccination with their LGUs based on latest data from the vaccination monitoring system of the DILG),” Año told the President.

The DILG earlier ordered local officials to speed up vaccination registration activities and ensure that non-technology savvy persons and those who do not have mobile phones or internet access would be included in the government’s vaccination drive.

He also said 24,329 PNP personnel are securing vaccination sites with 222 fire trucks, 17 ambulances, and 714 firefighters on standby in case of emergency situations.

Taal unrest response

With alert level 3 raised over Taal Volcano, Año said the DILG has provided continuous assistance to 4,363 affected families.

He added that 30 evacuation centers in Cavite and Batangas are housing 1,000 families (4,000 individuals) while minimum health protocols are strictly implemented in these facilities.

“Mayroon din po tayong 700 fire trucks, 14 rescue trucks, 21 ambulances, seven watercraft at about 1,072 firemen na nakatalaga para magligtas kung sakaling pumutok ang bulkan (We have 700 fire trucks, 14 rescue trucks, 21 ambulances, seven watercraft, and about 1,072 firemen deployed ready to provide rescue operations in case the volcano erupts),’’ Año said.

Anti-drug drive

Meanwhile, Año noted that 10 drug suspects voluntarily surrendered to authorities from July 4 to 11.

In the same period, the PNP conducted a total of 1,193 anti-illegal drug operations where 1,645 individuals were arrested and 12 suspects were killed.

Authorities also seized 16 kilos of shabu and almost 60 kilos of marijuana worth PHP121.66 million during these operations. (PNA)
