The Karmelli Clinic and Hospital Corporation in cooperation with the Far Eastern University (FEU) College of Medicine Alumni Society and in partnership with the Ilocos Norte local government will be providing free surgeries on thyroid, breast, gallbladder, hemorrhoids, and soft tissue tumors, among others, on Nov. 12-14, 2020.

Dr. Norman Rabago, provincial health consultant and chief executive officer of Karmelli Clinic and Hospital, on Tuesday said the surgical mission is open for all and it is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

He said volunteer specialists from the FEU College of Medicine Alumni Society will be performing the free surgeries in time for the November 12 birthday celebration of Senator Ma. Imelda Josefa “Imee” Marcos.

Dubbed as, “Bukol Operasyon, IMEEsolusyon!,” the screening of interested applicants is now ongoing at the Karmelli hospital starting Nov. 3 until Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Rabago said the surgical team can accommodate at least 50 applicants during the three-day mission or it could be more depending on the number of applicants.

Before the scheduled operation, all screened applicants will have to undergo antigen tests.

Now on its 10th year anniversary, the Karmelli Clinic and Hospital is hosting the surgical mission for the first time as a way of giving back to the community.

From a small clinic, the hospital has upgraded into a general hospital when the Department of Health granted its classification as a Secondary (Level II) Health Care Facility.

In 2011, the hospital became a member of the Philippine Hospital Association (PHA) and of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth). Several other reputable health maintenance organizations are also affiliated with them.

Karmelli Clinic and Hospital conducts general surgical services. It also offers basic and advanced Laparoscopic Gallbladder, Upper and Lower Gastro-Intestinal, Metabolic and Endocrine and Weight Loss Surgeries, performed by the internationally trained specialists headed by Dr. Raymund Andrew Ong, who is also its current president.
